New Year’s Day: A tale of two lights

An annual word-gift

Fireworks at midnight
herald a new year
eagerly anticipated,
much celebrated, and as
one by one, we sleep…

Sunrise on the horizon
ushers in new dawn
just like the one before
— an ordinary glory
outshining fireworks.

Today is a new year
but everyday is a new dawn
if we look to the light.

Happy new year.
