Some Time

(Or, A word-gift for New Year’s Day 2017)

Sometimes, time is
like a losing football game
with not a goal to your name
and six to the other team –
easy to run out of steam.

Sometimes, time slacks—
one day dragged too long
another week wore you down
that month moved too slow
you yearn for this year to go…

But some other times come
like a newborn, fresh and clean,
no history, capable of anything,
even (who knows?) fixing past errors,
maybe making new morrows.

Sometimes, time’s up,
and there’s nothing more to say,
but today is not that day,
because, sometimes, it’s clear:
a new day is also a new year.

Welcome to another batch of 365 24-hour bundles.

May they be better than the last, however that went.

Happy 2017.
